The first step into the world of cannabis cultivation starts with the basics: the right setup, germination, and choosing your seeds. In this episode, we show you everything you need to bring your first plant to life.
The Right Setup for Your Grow
Before you even put a seed in the soil, you need the right environment. Light, temperature, and humidity all have to be dialed in. An indoor setup gives you full control over every variable – from lighting to ventilation.
What You Need
- Grow tent or grow room – depending on space and number of plants
- Lighting – LED or HPS, depending on budget
- Ventilation – exhaust with carbon filter, intake, oscillating fan
- Soil and pots – pre-fertilized soil saves work in the first weeks
- pH meter – the pH level of your water is crucial
Seeds: Feminized, Autoflower, or Regular?
Your choice of seeds determines the entire course of your grow. Feminized seeds guarantee female plants, Autoflowers bloom regardless of the light cycle, and regular seeds offer the full genetic spectrum – including male plants.
Germination: Step by Step
Germination is the moment everything begins. There are various methods – from the moist paper towel to direct planting in soil. The key is consistent moisture and warmth around 22–25°C. After 24–72 hours, the first taproot appears.
- Soak seeds in water for 12 hours
- Place between moist paper towels
- Store in a dark, warm place (22–25°C)
- After germination, carefully place in soil (root pointing down)
The First Days: Seedling Care
Once the seedling breaks through the soil, the growth phase begins. Low light (18/6 cycle), water sparingly, and be patient – those are the three rules for the first days. Overwatering is the most common beginner mistake.
