North Macedonia is one of the emerging cannabis production countries in Europe. In this documentary, we visit a licensed indoor plantation that produces to EU-GMP standards – pharmaceutical quality at the highest level.
The Facility: High-Tech in the Balkans
What looks unassuming from the outside is a high-tech operation inside. Climate control, automated irrigation, CO2 enrichment – nothing is left to chance here. The plants grow under LED lights in sterile rooms that require protective clothing for entry.
EU-GMP: What Does It Mean?
GMP stands for "Good Manufacturing Practice" – the European standard for pharmaceutical manufacturing. Every plantation that wants to export to Europe must hold this certification. That means: complete documentation, regular audits, and zero tolerance for contamination.
From Seedling to Harvest
The entire lifecycle of each plant is documented. Every room has its own climate zones for vegetation and flowering. Harvesting is done by hand – machines would damage the delicate trichomes.
Export to Germany
After harvest, the flowers are dried, trimmed, and vacuum-sealed. An independent lab tests THC content, terpene profile, and purity. Only after clearance does the product ship to Germany – to warehouses like the one we visited in another documentary.
Why North Macedonia?
Low production costs, an ideal climate, and a government that actively supports the cannabis sector. North Macedonia is positioning itself as a production hub for the European market – and the quality speaks for itself.
